WELCOME TO OPEN JUNIORS

AGE - U16 to  U19

The OPENS Program serves as the link between Saturday Juniors and the Senior Competition, adopting the same rules as the Seniors to emphasize competitive play while instilling structure and discipline. Games are played with a shot clock, pushing teams to embrace a competitive edge and engage in an uptempo style of play, making critical decisions distinct from slowing the game down by holding the ball.

Players continue to learn fundamental basketball-specific skills, with a focus on skill development at these ages. The goal is for players to implement their training knowledge into game decisions, and at this early stage, micro-management is avoided. Teams, guided by coaches' discretion and the athletes' skills and game IQ, are taught the essential prerequisites for making reads in games.

The objective of play is to create a positive experience centered around skills development, communication, fun, teamwork, and fostering healthy relationships among players and coaching staff. Encouraging positive choices through a constructive playing experience is paramount, with each season aimed at players enhancing themselves both on and off the court, preparing for life's challenges.

The OPENS program, filled with fun, provides a secure year-round space for children, parents, and families to engage in basketball. Playing sports aids children in self-discovery, offering support in challenging situations on and off the court. Basketball becomes a platform for exploration and learning to cope with challenges, teaching resilience and embracing mistakes as part of the learning process.

With two full competition seasons per year, each spanning two school terms, OPENS aligns with the growing popularity of basketball globally and in Australia. The program aspires to build a basketball family within the community, creating enduring memories for Pioneers.

To ease your child into the OPENS group, our friendly coaches, motivated and inspirational, uphold the association's STAR standards, infusing their teams with infectious energy and a nurturing personality.

If you have an interest in coaching, managing, or joining our committee, please express your desire.
